Welcome to Deafblind Australia’s Resource Hub. This can be accessed on DBA’s national website. These resources are created with guidance from our Deafblind Reference Group. This group includes people from across Australia with different diagnoses, different backgrounds and communication styles.
They share their lived experience with you all. Their knowledge was used to make these resources. These resources help people of any age understand more clearly what deafblindness is, and they are made in an accessible way.
These resources show many different perspectives, for example, from people who identify as deafblind; people who are learning about themselves as deafblind people, and what that means; people who don’t yet know that they are deafblind, but have similar experiences.
Our goal is to provide balanced, warm and welcoming, inclusive information. All of our content includes audio captions along with transcripts and Auslan video. The information was produced with input from our Reference Group. Throughout the creative process we were careful not to dismiss the group, but at every step of the process we would check in with our reference group, working collaboratively to make sure that the information we eventually released to the public was accurate and reflected their perspectives.
The resources are built into seven different bundles. You can choose which bundles particularly interest you.
The bundles are:
These topics suit those who are deafblind themselves, family and friends, professionals and organisations. Anyone wanting to better understand deafblindness.
We say thank you to our Deafblind Reference group for their time, commitment and their work together with us throughout the duration of this project. Also, we say thank you to the skilled interpreters and commguides who provided support in making communication accessible throughout the development of these resources.
We also thank the Department of Health, Disability and Aging for funding this project.
New resources will continue to be added to this project in the future. This information will help develop your knowledge and awareness of deafblindness. If you would like more information or training or support, you can contact Deafblind Australia via email at info@deafblindaustralia.org.au.
