Jael is a newcomer to Australia from the US. Encouraged to learn sign language over 16 years ago, she has been involved in the deaf culture since then. She learned the tactile elements of sign language due to progressive vision loss along with her hearing loss and is well-versed in the communication needs of the Deafblind community as a result. Jael’s work experience involves facilitating workshops supporting interpreters to learn effective tactile sign language interpreting methods and supporting the blind with strategies for living more independent lives. As a Deafblind Australia Project Officer, Jael plans and facilitates workshops about the technology needs of the Deafblind community in Victoria.
