David was born in London (UK) and emigrated to Australia as a teenager. He gained a medical degree and embarked on a unique career that included 13 tertiary degrees and a role as senior medical consultant in aged care assessment and rehabilitation. In 2008 the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency revoked his registration due to his vision and hearing loss, so David turned his attention to advocacy. He spent 10 years as the SA President of Blind Citizens Australia, served on over 20 government committees, and is now Vice-President and Board Director at Deafblind Australia. He has gained many awards for his advocacy work including being a finalist in the 2019 Blind Australian of the Year and 2021 Australian of the Year Awards.
